‘ Egypt is the birth country of foie gras ‘
Foie gras was discovered by the Egyptians during the 3rd Millenium, after they noticed that the geese and ducks gorged themselves naturally.
During the seventeeth and eighteenth century, foie gras appeared in France.
Initially the production of foie gras was developed in the south west and in Alsace. It was only half way through the twentieth century that foie gras inscribed itself forever in the heart of French cooking.
France is the world’s largest producer of foie gras, producing more than 18,000 tonnes.
